Hillmorton Hawks v Alvis Colts

Hillmorton Hawks v Alvis Colts (Sunday 6th)
After the break in matches, caused by the 2nd lockdown, the Hawks were delighted to be allowed to see their friends again and get back to the routine of playing matches this week even if a little rusty.
The boys took to the pitch with confidence still, but Reece R was called into action straight away, producing a good clearance from an immediate Alvis attack.
Now settled into it, the Hawks made some good chances, one being from James S whose shot was saved, then Lennon M pressed well to win the ball back from a nervous looking Alvis goalie, but his effort hit the post. It didn’t put Lennon off who then managed to craft another shot, which Lucas D scored from the follow up, to take the lead.
The balance of play then seemed to turn, with Alvis shooting just wide, then scoring from a fine through ball. Then with the teams evenly balanced, a wild sliding tackle offered Alvis the chance of a free kick and with the new directions of “no walls allowed”, the Hawks could do little to stop Alvis taking the lead shortly before half time.
After being directed to press and continue their good play, Lennon gained a 1v1 chance against the Alvis goalie, but shot wide, then it was Alvis’s turn to hit the post at the other end, showing how close the game was.
Lucas D then went on a great full pitch length run to get his side out of danger and on the attack but shots from James S and Tom D couldn’t quite bring the game level.
The high press then resulted in the ball landing at the feet of last season’s top scorer Riley T who had a clear sight at goal, but it wasn’t to be this time and the shot was gathered
With the Hawks pushing for an equaliser, Alvis could then have extended their lead at the finish were it not for a last-minute challenge by James, and a fine Finlay save.
A cracking game, one which both sides will be looking to play again sometime next season.
Man of the match was Lennon M for his determination and ever improving goal threat.
