Cov&Warks Youth League U12s Div C- Hillmorton Juniors 6-1 GNP Sports Juniors

Sponsored by K.B Carpentry & General Building Services & Attingham Consulting Engineers Ltd

Assuming that there will be no football for the next 4 weeks, then at least we will remember this resounding victory against GNP, a team that we were level on points with before the game but in a different class altogether by the end of it. The Juniors were simply irresistible in the first few minutes as they swept GNP aside with some fantastic play. Encouraged to use the wind to their advantage the boys took plenty of opportunities to test the opposition. Inside 2 minutes, Mason latched on to a defensive lapse and sent a super curling shot into the top corner for 1-0. TobyB was running the show on the left wing, dancing past tackles and pressing for every second ball. Jay offered the same threat on the right, whilst Mason hovered in a position just behind Noah, it was his shot from just outside the box that the goalie spilled and who else but the ‘fox in the box’ himself, Noah , was on hand to see the ball home for 2-0! The claret and blues were feeling ruthless and each time they attacked it looked like they would score. Within 12 minutes, Noah’s accurate through ball found the rampaging TobyB whose strength found himself through on goal and he smashed a left foot shot into the roof of the net for the third! Hillmorton were enjoying themselves and it was the post and bar that stopped further goals in the first half and GNP looked absolutely down and out as they trooped off at half time.

Juniors were reminded though that with the wind against them GNP were still a threat and 5 minutes into the second half they were awarded a penalty that just beat Olly’s  outstretched arm, for what proved to be nothing more than a consolation. Tom switched into midfield and proved the perfect foil for Joseph, asserting his influence on the game immediately and dominating at every opportunity. It wasn’t long before Hillmorton got their ruthless streak back and Archie threatened on the left, riding a couple of tackles before being hacked down in the box. The penalty was duly despatched with his left foot into the corner for 4-1. Luis and I could see Tom itching to get in on the act and he cleverly found space to make some threatening runs in behind, Joseph found him with a clever pass and Tom raced through and coolly slotted home the fifth goal and his first for the club! Marked by ‘the shirt over the head’ celebration, which was great to see! Hillmorton pushed for another and after a threatening corner Mason flicked the ball to Joseph who mercilessly smashed in the 6th just before the whistle went!

A superb team performance, typified by the fact that we had 6 different scorers today, all of the team were tremendous and the result takes Hillmorton further up the league within touching distance of the top 4. Its uncertain whether we will be playing again for a few weeks, so in the meantime, stay safe everyone😊
MAN OF THE MATCH – TobyB – Tremendous performance from Toby, was brilliant on both flanks, dancing past defenders and see of his crosses were fantastic, the opposition just could not cope with him, fantastic goal too! Amazing!
BEST EFFORT – Tom – Defensively he was a rock, but when he switched to midfield the whole team were lifted by his influence on the game. He looked so chuffed when he scored, a brilliant goal too! Incredible!
